Runner of the Month

Every 4-6 weeks or so the committee nominate one or two Runners of the Month - these are people who we feel have worked hard and improved in some way, whether that is by running their first 5K, coming back from injury or completing a longer event in an exceptional time. At the end of the year, at the club AGM, members have the opportunity to choose a male and female Runner of the Year by voting for the various Runners of the Month.

Doug WaymarkOur 1st Runner of the Month for August is Doug Waymark. Doug has always put in some legendary endurance performances but it is for his tireless support of Jules in her Cotswold Way challenge that we recognise Doug. All weekend, day and night he was on the road with all the food, drink, support both physical and emotional that she needed. Serving up marvellous soup and snatching a few minutes kip where he could, he finally turned in at 5am monday, after taking Jules home of course. They could not have done it without you!

Vicky KenndyWe've been very impressed by Vicky's dedication to her running - particularly her marathons. Vicky is the first female Almost Athlete to have completed all 6 Marathon Majors (London, Berlin, Boston, New York, Chicago and Tokyo)! Equally proficient at all distances, she was also part of the winning team at the Berkeley 20 mile race. Well done Vicky!

PrashCongratulations to Prashanth Kumar Sripathi (Prash) for his fantastic run at the Manchester marathon where he managed to knock a magnificent 26 minutes off his previous personal best to finish in 3.01.08. Prash has been training hard and constantly improving - he was also the first male Almost home at the recent Cleevewold. Well done Prash!

Mark EaversMark was nominated this month, not only for his enthusiasm for running but also for his involvement in charity work (he recently had that famous bear shaved off for a fundraising cause!) and, in particular, for his assistance to visually impaired runners. Well done Mark!
