Welcome to Almost Athletes
Cheltenham's largest running club

We pride ourselves on being the kind of club that can help and encourage you to get the most out of your running - whether your interest is running for fun, getting fit, or training for anything from a 5K race to a marathon or even an ultra. We can help you achieve your aims.

Anyone is welcome to come along to our training sessions and run, regardless of age or ability - we have groups for everyone so you don't have to run alone and you won't get left behind.

We organise evening runs and weekend runs - both on and off road - and training sessions. Come along on a Wednesday night and see for yourself!

Almost Athletes has been running since 1988, welcoming runners of all abilities and providing not only guided training runs but also a lively social calendar. With a current membership in excess of 400, Almost Athletes really is Cheltenham's biggest and friendliest running club!

A tribute to Doug Waymark

Doug WaymarkOn Tuesday we heard the shocking and very sad news that we had lost a member of the Almost Athletes family, Douglas Waymark. Doug was competing in the Enduroman Arch to Arc race, an 87 mile run from Marble Arch to Dover, followed by a channel swim, followed by a 181 mile bike ride to the Arc de Triomphe in Paris - an extreme event that highly experienced endurance athlete Doug had fully prepared for. Sadly, Doug died shortly after getting into difficulties during the channel swim.

Doug was a remarkable but modest man whose spectacular personal achievements will remain an inspiration not only to his fellow athletes, but also to the wider sporting community. His quiet and generous support of our club events and his help and encouragement to others with their own personal goals are a true reflection of this amazing man.

This week we hold our annual Bugatti 10K race which Doug loved to support, taking on the role of the lead bike and wearing his distinctive multi-coloured hat whilst ensuring that everyone finished safely. He even wrote a computer software application to help with the timing and finish procedure because he cared about the success of the race and wanted to help. We will be holding a minute's applause before the race in honour of Doug.

Everyone in the Almost Athletes family would like to pass on their condolences to his partner Lola and to his family.

We all feel privileged to have met this remarkable man. RIP Douglas Waymark. You will be sadly missed.
